Description

One of Napoleon's favorite marshals (1753–1815) who served as his chief of staff from the start of his first Italian campaign in 1796 until his first abdication in 1814. LS in French, one page, 7.75 x 12.25, Minister of War letterhead, February 2, 1804. Untranslated letter to Marshal Brune, at the time the Ambassador at Constantinople, who had written on behalf of Citizen Nivet, an engineer. But as Nivet had resigned and his resignation had been accepted, he must now be considered as a simple citizen, no longer connected with the Ministry. However, Berthier is willing, if Brune approves, to give him a stipend of 150 francs a month, charging it up as an extraordinary expense of the Ministry of War. In fine condition, with a light stain in the bottom blank area.
