I am the Reverse of a monied man; for the Improvements of this Place and of three others make my Expenditures exceed considerably my Income to which must be added $7000 which I was obliged to pay last winter for having had the good nature to put my name on a note of Mr. Church. Living, as I do, very much out of the world I cannot tell you what door to knock at: but I was told sometime last Summer, and the Intelligence was recently confirmed, that altho mercantile men find it difficult to raise money (by Reason of serious Doubts as to the Solidity of mercantile operations for the last two or three years) there who can offer the security of unincumbered real estate was the city of New York maybe readily accommodated."
