Scarce souvenir green glass bowl produced for the canceled Helsinki 1940 Summer Olympics, 5.75˝ x 4.5˝ x 6˝, with the bowl’s four sides featuring embossed designs of wrestlers, runners, a javelin thrower, and the Helsinki Olympic Stadium, and the underside is etched in Finnish. In fine condition. The 1940 Summer Olympics were originally to be hosted in Tokyo, Japan, but Japanese organizers withdrew in 1938 because of the Second Sino-Japanese War. They were rescheduled to take place in Helsinki, Finland, but ultimately canceled due to the outbreak of World War II. Helsinki would finally host the Olympic Games in 1952.
