American artist and Disney Imagineer (1910-1989) who worked in watercolor, oils, and pen and ink sketches. In 1953, Ryman drew the first illustrations of Walt Disney's vision of a theme park that eventually became Disneyland. Original study sketches by legendary Disney artist Herbert Ryman for Thomas B. Costain’s 1955 novel The Tontine, accomplished in ink on an off-white 14 x 11 sheet, which contains three separate scenes: an elderly woman pouring water from a kettle into a pot; a musician playing a guitar or banjo on a stage; and a man kneeling and being blindfolded by a woman, an annotation below the latter reads: “No. 10, Alfred Curboy in secret room of Princess Charlotte Bonaparte.” In fine condition, with trivial edgewear, and toning from prior display.
