Description

ALS signed “H. Clay,” one page, 8 x 10, May 30, 1833. Handwritten letter to W. F. Dunnica, concerning a tract of land he owns north of the Missouri River that he has neglected which he seeks to preserve from a tax forfeiture. In part: “On the 22nd of June 1831 Abraham Hill conveyed to me [land] in the Military tract patented to Timothy Sear and purchased by Hill for the taxes due in 1824. It was one of my tracts which had been neglected, and was re-acquired by me as above. I am not sure that I have been entered for taxes; and I may be in danger of losing it again. I will thank you to do what is necessary to prevent its loss." In fine condition, with some light wear and foxing along the side edges. Accompanied by an engraved portrait of Clay made by W. G. Jackman from a daguerreotype by Brady.
