Description

"I shall give the address with which I opened the cause in Boston—entitled 'The Rebellion—its origin & main-spring.'"

ALS, one page, 7.25 x 8.75, October 29, 1861. Handwritten letter to a gentleman, in part: "I presume that you have already rec'd my telegram accepting in your cause for the 7th Nov. I understood from you that I was free to speak on whatever…applicable to the time. Accordingly I shall give the address with which I opened the cause in Boston—entitled 'The Rebellion—its origin & main-spring.'" In fine condition, with overall faint staining. Accompanied by a clipped ink signature, "C. Sumner," affixed to an off-white 6.5 x 8.75 card below an albumen portrait.
