Circa 1997-1998 Pen-Tab notebook containing an assortment of handwritten production notes by Prince, who used the notebook to jot down lyrics, song titles, and recording ideas for various projects he was involved with during the period, including the Graham Central Station album GCS 2000, the New Power Generation album Newpower Soul, and other unidentified works that were presumably never published. The notebook, 8.5 x 10.5, contains 46 dual-sided leaves (92 total pages), with Prince’s handwriting present on approximately 11 pages in pencil and ink. Differing styles of handwriting found in the notebook indicate that it was used collaboratively by Prince and other musicians. For example, the notebook contains handwritten lyrics for the New Power Generation song ‘Push It Up,’ which are annotated by both Prince and an unknown scribe; a portion of Prince’s lyrics for the song: “Realize that u r somebody / come on y’all and join the party / everybody grab a body & feel good / u should push it up.” On another page, Prince writes down song titles for the album GCS 2000, “Free, I Just Found Somebody, Utopia, Don’t Let Em Change U, Groove On, Do U Wanna Get Funky?,” and adds to the upper right corner, “7:08 - need snare pick up.” The front cover is marked in felt tip, “Do not throw away, Prince handwriting.” In very good to fine condition, with the front cover and first three pages nearly detached, and scattered creases and folds.
