The reporting continues with an insider’s vantage point of the day’s historic events: “Chief Justice Chase rose, holding Washington’s Bible in his hands, and walked towards General Grant, who rose, and at an intimation of Mr. Chase held up his hand and repeated the oath of office after the Chief Justice.
