Confederate major general (1826–1895) who distinguished himself during the Siege of Petersburg; in his career as a civil engineer, Mahone was prominent in the building of Virginia's roads and railroads. Partly-printed DS, one page, 9.5 x 6.5, September 15, 1868. Stock certificate issued to J. P. Branch for ten shares in the Virginia and Tennessee Rail Road Company, signed at the conclusion in ink by William Mahone as president. In fine condition, with a section excised from the lower left.
