Personal (Williams & Glyns Bank Limited) check, 6 x 3, filled out and signed by Keith Moon, payable to Tramp for £361.05, November 26, 1977. In fine condition. Encapsulated in a Beckett authentication holder.
A scarce signed check from The Who’s legendary drummer—Moon was a regular at Tramp, a private London nightclub known for banning photography and gossip writers. Among the sundry tales of Moon’s debauchery at Tramp was when, purportedly, he arrived at the club naked and strapped to his Rolls Royce. After making his way inside, he proceeded to swing from a 17th-century chandelier that inevitably came crashing to the floor. Moon was banned for two months, a sentence reduced to just 48 hours after Moon gave the club £500 in cash and pleaded with co-owner Johnny Gold to reconsider. A Moon check to Tramp was likely not an uncommon occurrence as the rowdy musician routinely took advantage of the club’s lax policy on running up bar tabs. Moon apparently holds the record with a tab of around £14,000.
