In full (translated): "I had hoped, my dear former colleague, that you would become my colleague again. I am told that you do not want to withdraw the assistance of your patronage from your numerous clientele, so that you are sacrificing the position of parliamentary deputy to your fellow citizens of Toulouse, but I have also learned that you are taking a kind and appreciative interest in my son-in-law Charles Remusat, whose candidacy is one of the foremost wishes of my heart and at the same time one of the foremost convictions of my patriotism. I love him with all my heart, but I regard him just as highly as I hold him dear, because he combines with a great deal of talent the personal character that is even more essential for a good deputy. So I thank you as a father for your goodwill toward him, and I encourage you in it as a citizen, at the same time that I am glad of an occasion to join you in congratulations for our tricolor revolution and to renew the alliance of lively and constant friendship that I have entered into with you."
