Desirable 12 x 11.5 wooden plaque featuring a metal image of the Lunar Landing Training Vehicle with facsimile signatures of its pilots, signed in black felt tip, "James Lovell, Apollo 8, 13." Below are plaques reading: "Lunar Landing Training Vehicle, NASA — MSC" and "James Lovell." In fine condition.
The Lunar Landing Training Vehicle (LLTV) was a training simulators used by NASA astronauts to practice piloting the Lunar Module for moon landings. These vehicles replicated the challenging conditions of lunar descent, including low gravity and limited atmospheric resistance. Despite being difficult to control and prone to accidents, the LLTV proved essential in preparing astronauts for the successful Apollo landings. Bill Anders described the LLTV as 'a much unsung hero of the Apollo Program,' while Neil Armstrong emphasized its importance in an address before the Society of Experimental Test Pilots in 2007: 'The Lunar Landing Training Vehicle, or LLTV, proved to be an excellent simulator and was highly regarded by the Apollo Lunar Module crews as necessary for lunar landing preparation.'
