Alan Bean's commemorative Queen Elizabeth II 'Lunar Year Series' Australian silver dollar coin, 1.5˝ in diameter, with the front featuring Queen Elizabeth II encircled with text, "Elizabeth II, Australia, 1 Dollar," and the reverse featuring a stylized Chinese dragon with year, "2000," and denomination, "1 OZ 999 Silver." Includes the original plastic coin case, which is signed in black felt tip, "Alan Bean, Apollo 12." In fine condition. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Amy Bean, the daughter of Alan Bean.
Accompanied by a copied certificate of authenticity from Bean, who states: “I hereby certify that this Elizabeth II Australian silver dollar coin commemorating 2000, the Lunar Year of the Dragon, is part of my personal collection. According to Chinese lore individuals born in the lunar year of the Dragon are gifted with innate courage, tenacity, and intelligence. Appropriately, these are the attributes of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Mike Collins, the Apollo 11 astronauts who first landed man on the moon. I have kept this symbolic coin in my art studio to inspire me as I tell their story, and paint Apollo's flight to the moon.”
