Alan Bean's STS-6 enameled pendant, 1.25˝ x 1˝, depicting the mission insignia of the sixth NASA Space Shuttle mission, with soaring Challenger, deployed TDRS-1 satellite, and gold-plated names and edges. In fine condition. Accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity from Bean, who writes: “I hereby certify that this enamel medallion commemorating the maiden voyage of the Challenger Space Shuttle, STS-6, was part of my personal collection. This historical pin was kept in my art studio where I paint every day. Captain Paul Weitz, STS-6 Mission Commander was a close friend of mine. Paul and I flew our first squadron assignments as Naval Aviators in Attack Squadron 44 at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, FL. Many years later, Pete Conrad, astronaut leader and mentor, commanded both of our rookie space flights (me, Apollo 12 and Paul, Skylab I). The Skylab 1 crew repaired the damaged space station, and saved the entire Skylab mission. Paul Weitz was a role model, and an outstanding astronaut.”
