Description

Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 11 x 16, May 9, 1810. Scallop-topped ship’s pass issued for the “Brig Aurora of New York…mounted with no guns, navigated with eight men, To Pass with her Company, Passengers, Goods and Merchandize without any hinderance, seizure or molestation, the said Brig appearing by good testimony to belong to one or more of the Citizens of the United States." Signed at the conclusion by James Madison as president and countersigned by Secretary of State Robert Smith. The original embossed seal remains affixed to the lower left corner. Mounted and framed with a portrait and plate to an overall size of 27.5 x 24.25. In very good to fine condition, with creasing, a slice to the upper right corner, and fading to the signature.
