Original “Martin Luther King Jr Bl” dual-sided metal street sign from Los Angeles, California. The blue street sign, measuring 37.5˝ x 12˝ x 2.5˝ and weighing 14 pounds, features white sparkle text, “Martin Luther King Jr Bl, 4900 W,” and the original mounting bracket. In fine condition, with slight overall wear and scattered scuffs.
Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard was originally 40th Street, and then later Santa Barbara Avenue before it was finally changed to MLK Blvd on January 15, 1983, in honor of the civil rights leader and the large black community residing in that part of Los Angeles. The sign now intersects with President Barack Obama Boulevard, which was renamed from Rodeo Road on May 4, 2019.
