Leader of the Czechoslovak independence movement (1884–1948) who was president of Czechoslovakia at the time of Hitler's incursion. Vintage matte-finish 6.25 x 8.75 photo of the Czech president in a suit and tie, affixed to its original 8.75 x 12.25 mount, nicely signed in on the mount in fountain pen, "Dr. Edvard Benes." Affixed to a slightly larger sheet of cardstock and in fine condition, with a few trivial small stains to the mount. Benes was president of Czechoslovakia from 1935 to 1938, and again from 1945 to 1948. During the interim period during World War II, he led the Czechoslovak government-in-exile 1939 to 1945.
