Member of the House of Habsburg (1552–1612) who ruled as Holy Roman Emperor from 1576 to 1612. LS, signed “Rudolf,” one page both sides, 8.25 x 12.75, Prague, November 10, 1589. Official letter issued at Prague Castle, prominently signed at the conclusion in ink by Rudolf II and countersigned by Imperial pro-chancellor Jacob Kurz von Senftenau. In the letter, Emperor Rudolf II thanks the addressee for having granted his intercession (plea), interpreted by Baron Ludwig Colloredo, concerning the remission of the fine and the reduction of taxes for a commandery in Mailberg (a town in Lower Austria, a commandery of The Order of Knights of the Saint John of Jerusalem). The emperor is very pleased with the addressee's decision, in small part (translated): "We have noted your humble willingness to graciously please us and we will keep this in our mind." The crisply embossed Imperial paper seal affixed at the lower right remains fully intact. In very good to fine condition, with scattered toning and staining. Accompanied by a German transcription of the letter.
