President Pierce ratifies a “Treaty of Friendship between the United States and the Argentine Confederation”

Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 8 x 10.5, June 29, 1854. President Pierce directs the Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to “my ratification of the Treaty of Friendship between the United States and the Argentine Confederation.” Signed prominently at the conclusion by Franklin Pierce. In fine condition.

The United States and Argentina signed a Treaty of Friendship, Commerce, and Navigation on June 29, 1854, which was ratified by the president and exchanged on December 20, 1854, and proclaimed on April 9, 1855. The treaty was intended to confirm and acknowledge the existing relations between the two countries and to encourage and secure commercial intercourse.
