Original unissued invitation to the dedication ceremonies of the completed Washington Monument, held in Washington, D.C., on February 21, 1885, one page, 6.75 x 10.25, featuring an attractive engraved vignette containing a central portrait of George Washington below the finished monument. The invitation text reads: “The Commission appointed under the Joint Resolution of Congress approved May 13th, 1884, in relation to ceremonies to be authorized at the dedication of the Washington Monument requests the pleasure of your attendance at these ceremonies.” The blank lower field contains a printed signature of Ohio Senator John Sherman. In fine condition, with creasing to the corners, and an old mounting strip to back right edge.
