Description

First edition book: Photo-Micrographs and How to Make Them, Illustrated by Forty-Seven Photographs of Microscopic Objects, Photo-Micrographs, Reproduced by the Heliotype Process, by George M. Sternberg. Boston: James R. Osgood and Company, 1883. Hardcover, 6.25 x 9.25, 204 pages. In very good condition, with ownership inscription to title page, rubbing and edgewear to boards, and some foxing and staining to the textblock.

The author, George Miller Sternberg, was a U.S. Army physician who is considered the first American bacteriologist. He pioneered the use of microscopical examination of blood and tissues in which he was one of the first to employ the newly discovered process of photomicrography, and became the first scientist to produce photomicrographs of the tubercule bacillus.
