Description

Appealing matte-finish 5.5 x 7.75 portrait photo of William H. Taft, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “For my friend Rutherford Corbin, Wm. H. Taft, Manila Sept., 23, 1902.” Affixed to a same-size cardstock mount and in fine condition, with closely trimmed edges, and a few tiny surface gouges. An uncommon portrait of Taft signed during his three-year tenure as Governor-General of the Philippines, which lasted from March 16, 1900, until December 23, 1903, when he returned to America to assume his position as Secretary of War under the leadership of President Theodore Roosevelt.
