President Bush appoints Peter Jon de Vos of Florida as "Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Liberia." Signed at the conclusion in black felt tip by President George Bush; also bears the autopen signature of Secretary of State James Baker. Double-matted to an overall size of 19.5 x 15.5. The white paper seal affixed to the lower left remains fully intact. In fine condition. George Bush remains excessively rare in signed presidential appointments, with this example representing just the third that we have ever offered.
Peter Jon de Vos (1938–2008) served as American ambassador to Costa Rica, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mozambique, and Tanzania during a diplomatic career that spanned from the 1960s through 1990s.
