Three signatures of Union generals from the Civil War:
Uncommon ink signature, "Irwin McDowell, Maj. Genl.," on an off-white 5.25 x 2 slip. In fine condition, with a light stain to the lower left corner. McDowell was a career army officer and Union general (1818–1885) famous for his defeat during the First Battle of Bull Run.
Neat ink signature, "F. J. Porter,” on an off-white 2.75 x 2 slip clipped from the close of a letter. In fine condition. Accompanied by a small portrait of Porter. Porter was a Union major general (1822–1901) who fought at Antietam and Second Bull Run. Porter was court-martialed in 1863 for disobeying an order from Gen. Pope to attack but was exonerated in 1878.
Ink signature, "H. W. Slocum," on an off-white 5 x 2.5 clipped slip. In fine condition, with two small mounting remnants on the back. Slocum was a Union general (1827–1894) who fought at Gettysburg and accompanied Sherman on his March to the Sea.
