Large color 14.5 x 19 artistic portrait print of Harry S. Truman at his desk in front of an American flag, signed and inscribed on the original mat in black ink as president, “To Hon. John A. Marzall, with kindest regards, Harry S. Truman, White House, June 29, 1950.” Framed to an overall size of 23.5 x 28.25. In very good to fine condition, with dampstaining to the upper and lower left corners of the mat.
John A. Marzall was born on March 8, 1896, in Chicago and practiced law there after living in New York. President Harry Truman appointed him commissioner of patents, and he took the oath of office on December 2, 1949, the day after Commissioner Kingsland resigned. A highlight of Marzall’s tenure was the 1952 Patent Act, generally considered at the time to be the most important patent statute since the examining system started in 1836.
