LS on mourning stationery, four pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, East Cliff Lodge letterhead, June 16, 1873. Letter to Miss Sloman, in part: "I am favoured with your letter of yesterday's date, and am extremely sorry that I have been so unfortunate as to make a promise it is not in my power to fulfill. It had entirely escaped my memory, when you asked for my votes for the London Orphan Asylum, that they were already pledged to Mr. Philip Lucar of Holland Park, by whom I have just been reminded of the fact." In fine condition, with scattered light foxing.
