ALS signed “H. Hamlin,” 5 x 8, three pages on two adjoining sheets, October 25, 1879. Addressed from Bangor, Maine, a handwritten letter to Massachusetts senator Hosea Knowlton, in part: “I have had letters from three persons in behalf of the apt of Goddard as P. M. I have answered none of them, nor have I said one word to any person, what I thought or what I should do. So all the reports to which you refer are without the slightest foundation. I do not deem it advisable even now to say just what I shall do.” In fine condition.
