Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Rhode Island (1707-1785) who served as the colony's governor in the 1750s and 1760s. Manuscript DS, signed “Step. Hopkins C. Just.,” one page, 6.75 x 2.75, March 1771. Pay order issued as Chief Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, in part: "Pay Arthur Tenner Jun'r Twenty Shillings Lawful Money for his attendance Ten Days as Clerk at Providence Superior Court March Term AD 1771—and charge to the Colony's account." Professionally inlaid into a slightly larger sheet and in fine condition, with ink erosion to some of the text, but not the signature.
