Scarce Minie ball attributed to the Battle of Gettysburg, once tied to a manuscript note written in ink on a toned 5 x 5.75 sheet: "Minnie Ball taken from the neck of Barney Marshall, D Company, 17th Conn. Vols., Received at the Battle of Gettysburg, July 1, 1863." Housed in a 6.25 x 8.25 Riker box. In good to very good condition, with heavy staining, tape repairs to tears on the sheet, and splits to the threads that tied the bullet to the sheet. A carriage maker from Trumbull, Connecticut, Barney Marshall enlisted on August 6, 1862, and was wounded at Gettysburg on July 1, 1863. He mustered out with the regiment on July 19, 1865.
