Walt Cunningham’s large color “USAF Lunar Reference Mosaic” poster map, which he used in training as a NASA astronaut. The second edition poster, 1:5,000,000 scale, 35 x 34, entitled “LEM-1, Lunar Earthside Hemisphere,” is annotated in black felt tip by Cunningham, who circles and underlines numerous major maria and craters, including Oceanus Procellarum or ‘Ocean of Storms,’ the landing site of the Apollo 12 mission. Stapled to the upper right corner is a sheet bearing the names of several maria and craters, the majority of which have been checked off in black ballpoint. Published by the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center, compiled November 1962. In fine, folded condition, with expected signs of use. Accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity from Cunningham, who writes: “I certify that the large foldout LEM-1 USAF Lunar Reference Mosaic map was used by me in training during my time as a NASA astronaut from 1963 to 1971. It has been a part of my personal collection ever since.”
