Description

Hammerstein confirms an agreement for "the production of 'Oklahoma'"

DS, two pages, 8.5 x 11, July 1, 1954. Agreement between Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, Todd-AO Corporation, and Rodgers & Hammerstein Pictures, Inc., confirming an "agreement with American Optical Company, dated July 1, 1954, pursuant to which we may furnish certain facilities to said company in connection with the Todd-AO System and the production of 'Oklahoma.'" Signed at the conclusion in blue ballpoint by Oscar Hammerstein, and countersigned by representatives of Loew's, Inc., and Todd-AO. In fine condition.

The first feature film photographed using the Todd-AO 70 mm widescreen process, Oklahoma! is renowned for its innovative integration of song, character, and story. Adapted from the groundbreaking Broadway musical by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, the movie is set in the Oklahoma Territory at the turn of the 20th century. It explores the romance between a farm girl, Laurey, and a cowboy, Curly, amidst the community's journey toward statehood. Directed by Fred Zinnemann, the film preserves the musical's classic numbers like 'Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'' and 'People Will Say We're in Love,' capturing the spirit and optimism of the American frontier.
