Extremely rare ALS in French, signed “Cte. Alexandre Volta,” one page, 7.5 x 10, September 18, 1826. Handwritten letter to Louis Antoine de Bourbon, Duc d'Angouleme, the last dauphin of France and the eldest son of Charles X. In part (translated): "I hasten to send your excellency an acknowledgment of receipt of the Diploma of the Knight of the Royal Order of the Legion of Honour, which he was so good as to send me on behalf of His Majesty. Full of gratitude for the kindness of the King on my behalf, I have the honor to remain, Sir, by your excellence, at Como…your most true and obedient servant." In fine condition. A rare handwritten letter by the pioneering inventor, accepting laurels that recognized the monumental achievements of his life's work.
