Autograph endorsement signed, “H. Hamlin,” penned on the reverse of the integral leaf of letter sent to him by H. Hobbie, a U.S. Post Office Department official, one page, 8 x 9.75, June 12, 1844, informing Hamlin that the Post Office has received no application “to change the place of stopping the mail overnight on the route from Bangor to Houlton” and that Hamlin’s opposition to such an application will be placed on file should one arrive. To ensure his protest is placed on file, Hamlin returns Hobbies letter to him, writing “I enclose you this letter, that you can see I have put my protest on file, in addition to calling on the P.M. Genl.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds.
