World War II–era radio transmitter/receiver unit, measuring approximately 7.75˝ x 5.5˝ x 8.5˝, bearing a U.S. Army Signal Corps/Rauland Corp. plate on the top: "Radio Receiver & Transmitter, BC-222, Range 28 to 38 & 38 to 52 M.C., Designed at Signal Corps Laboratories, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey." The unit retains its canvas carrying straps and antenna, which is bent at the center. The BC-222, a battery operated portable transceiver, was part of the radio set SCR-194 and provided voice communication over short distances, nominally up to 5 miles.
