Description

American pianist, bandleader, arranger, and composer (1897–1952) who was important in the development of big band jazz and swing music. He was one of the most prolific black musical arrangers and, along with Duke Ellington, is considered one of the most influential arrangers and bandleaders in jazz history. Scarce vintage glossy 8 x 10 Consolidated Radio Artists publicity photo for Fletcher Henderson and His Orchestra, which shows the bandleader in a side-glancing bust-length pose, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "To Bill Baldwin, With every good wish, Sincerely, Fletcher Henderson.” In very good to fine condition, with scattered light creasing, and areas of surface loss to the upper and lower right corners.
