"The Duke...having the misfortune of being deaf, he will not engage to attend a publick meeting"

ALS, one page, 4.5 x 7, November 14, 1850. Handwritten letter to C. Mackenzie in London, beginning: "The Duke of Wellington presents his compliments to Mr. Mackenzie…The Duke will peruse with attention the tract inclosed with Mackenzie's note, but having the misfortune of being deaf, he will not engage to attend a publick meeting." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Wellington's hand and retaining his red wax seal intact on the reverse.
