Description

American athlete and two-time Olympic champion (1900–1943) who earned gold medals at the 1920 Antwerp Games in the 100-meter and the 4 x 100-meter relay; he also earned a silver medal in the 200-meter at Antwerp, and a silver medal in the 200-meter at the 1924 Paris Olympiad. Paddock died in a plane crash near Sitka, Alaska, during World War II. Signed book: The Fastest Human. First edition. NY: Thomas Nelson & Sons, 1932. Hardcover with dust jacket, 7.5 x 9.5, 250 pages. "To Fred Garner, Best wishes — and here's hoping you some day win an Olympic Championship! Charley Paddock, Aug 14-'32." In very good to fine condition, with some light dampstaining to lower portion of signed page, and scattered wear to the dust jacket. Includes a rare lobby brochure for the 1925 film Nine and Three-Fifths Seconds, which starred Paddock as a fictionalized version of himself.
