Scarce original ‘Anti-Dreyfusard’ caricature of French artillery officer Alfred Dreyfus by an unknown artist, accomplished in mixed media on an off-white 8.25 x 11.75 sheet of drawing paper, which depicts the uniformed officer, the subject of the Dreyfus affair political scandal, in profile holding a French government building with the word above, “contagieux.” In fine condition. A rare period caricature done by an unidentified anti-Dreyfusard, illustrating Dreyfus in a large unflattering pose, his immense stature and influence serving as an infection or ‘contagion’ in French society.
