World War II-dated TLS signed “G. C. Marshall,” one page, 7 x 9, Chief of Staff (War Department) letterhead, March 11, 1944. Letter to Oscar-winning filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, in full: “I have received my copy of ‘Flight of a Tartar Tribe’ which you have had rebound for me. Your man has done a beautiful job and I will regard this volume as a memento of an interesting contact with you and your genius. Thanks for your kind thoughtfulness.” In fine condition.

Flight of a Tartar Tribe is a historical travelogue written by Thomas De Quincey that was first published in 1897. The book details the journey of a group of Tartar tribespeople as they flee from the Russian army in the early 19th century.
