Description

King of Spain (born 1527) from 1556 until his death in 1598; Sovereign of the Spanish Empire over North and South America, King of Portugal, Naples, Spanish Holland and Sicily, and King of England and Ireland while married to Queen Mary I. LS in Spanish, signed "Yo El Ray," one page, 8.25 x 12, December 21, 1593. Letter concerning a pay raise for a noble cabin boy and sailor, in part (translated): "Taking everything into consideration, I have deemed it fitting and desirable that he be granted the favor of twenty escudos for maintenance in place of the aforementioned twelve escudos for said Don Alonso de Rocaful be stricken from the records." In fine condition, with light show-through from docketing on the reverse.
