Distinguished and prolific French composer (1892-1974) best known for his pioneering incorporation of jazz elements and polytonality in such repertoire staples as 'Le boeuf sur le toit' and 'La création du monde.' Exceptional AMQS on an off-white 15 x 11 sheet of music paper, signed and inscribed in the lower border in fountain pen to noted music publisher Emil Hertzka, “A mon cher esteem ami Monsieur Hertzka, souvenir de, Darius Milhaud, Oct. 1925.” Across seven staves, Milhaud has carefully penned over twenty-five bars of music from his first seven string quartets, with the composer titling each in the left margin: “1. Quatuor 1912,” “2. Quatuor 1914-1915,” “3. Quatuor 1916,” to which he adds “Oeuvre posthume” [“Posthumous work”], “4. Quatuor 1918,” “5. Quatuor 1920,” “6. Quatuor 1922,” and “7. Quatuor 1925.” In fine condition.
