Ohio congressman (1820–1871) who was a leader of the Copperhead faction of anti-war Democrats during the Civil War. ALS signed “C. L. Vallandigham,” one page, 5 x 8, January 15, 1860. Handwritten letter remarking on the long battle over the House speakership in 1860. In part: "I have been so busy. I sent you my speech which has had a great run. I send you now several others, & will remember you from time to time with pleasure. No speaker yet, & slight prospect: I cannot see the end yet, but we mean to hold out." In fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
