Union general (1826-1885) removed from command by Lincoln for his failure to exert pressure on Lee's army during the crucial Peninsula Campaign. He ran unsuccessfully for the presidency in 1864 and later served as Governor of New Jersey. ALS signed "Geo. B. McClellan," one page, 4.75 x 7.5, June 27, [no year]. Handwritten letter to a gentleman, in part: "I was very glad to hear from you again after so long an interval…. It is possible that I may pass through Boston in August, but I do not expect to leave home before that time." Matted and framed with a photo to an overall size of 17 x 13. In fine condition.
