Description

Lincoln's controversial first secretary of war (1799–1889). ALS, one page, 7.5 x 5.25, no date but circa 1840s. Handwritten letter to Navy Secretary John Young Mason. In full: "I send you, with the hope that you will give it a favorable notice, the application of W. H. Myers from a Assistant Pursurship." Affixed to a same-size sheet and in fine condition, with trimmed edges and a few faint stains.
