Letter to "Captain Richard Thomas Esqr., Commander of His Majesty's Bomb Vessel Etna," sent from "onboard the Victory at Sea." In part: "You are hereby required and directed to receive my public dispatches onboard His Majesty's Bomb Vessel Etna under your Command, and proceed with them with all possible expedition to Naples, taking care to have a sufficient weight affixed to them and ready to throw overboard into the sea in case of your being in danger of capture by an Enemy, and on your arrival there you will deliver them to His Excellency Hugh Elliot Esqr., His Majesty's Minister at the Court of Naples, and acquaint His Excellency that you are directed to wait four days for his answers." Handsomely double-matted and framed with an engraved portrait of Lord Nelson to an overall size of 21 x 18, with a window in the backing for viewing the reverse. In fine condition. A fantastic letter signed onboard Nelson's flagship, the HMS Victory, regarding secretive diplomatic correspondence amidst the Napoleonic Wars.
