Description

Famed defense attorney (1857–1938) noted for his role in the Scopes 'Monkey' Trial and the Leopold-Loeb thrill-killing case. ALS, one page, 5.75 x 8.5, personal letterhead, October 20, 1927. Handwritten letter to Charles E. Read in Maryland, offering some wise words on education. In part: "All culture should be toward wisdom and understanding. These two words mean the same, and their result will be kindness, tolerance, and refusing to judge your fellow man." In very fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
