Exceptionally rare Bank of Tokyo, Ltd. check, 6.25 x 3, filled out in another hand and signed nicely in black ink by John Lennon, payable to 'Jo Johns – John Lennon Account' for £789.50, March 8, 1976. In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.
The recipient, Jo Jo Johns, was a personal assistant to the Beatles who worked at the group's offices at 3 Savile Row in central London from 1968 to 1975. Johns was also a friend of Lennon who helped the latter clear his house when he and Yoko Ono moved to New York in August 1971. Also of interesting association, Yoko Ono’s great-grandfather was Zenjiro Yasuda, the founder of the Bank of Tokyo. The family name of Yasuda had long been connected with the powerful zaibatsu, financial, commercial, and industrial worlds that fueled Japan’s business empire. To date, this is the only Lennon-signed Bank of Tokyo check to have been offered at auction.
