Two brief ALSs from Stephen Stills to Crosby, Stills, and Nash manager Mac Holbert, signed “Stephen” and “Stills,” undated but circa 1980s. The first letter, handwritten in blue ballpoint on a 3.5 x 4.25 sheet of Seelbach Hotel (Louisville, Kentucky) stationery, reads: “O Dark Thirty, Mac, Was up real late writing, regret must pass on museum, call when ready for golf course and I’ll get a cab and meet you all there. Fore sure.” The second letter, written in pencil on an 8.5 x 5 sheet of notebook paper, reads: “Dear Mac. RE: The Lowenstein Foundation reception & all these receptions: Any idea why no invites for me?” In overall fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and by a signed certificate of authenticity from Holbert.
The consignor notes that these letters come directly from the private collection of Mac Holbert, who started in the Spring of 1971 as an assistant truck driver and gopher for the Crosby & Nash Tour. In 1973 he became Graham Nash's assistant and eventually his tour manager. He also managed tours for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Poco, America, Dwight Twilley, Peter, Paul and Mary, and Carole King, doing so through 1991. After he retired from the road, Holbert continued his business relationship with Graham Nash, as well as his friendship with this legendary trio of musicians.
