Limited edition 19 x 13 artist's proof print of a Paul Calle sketch showing CMP Collins suiting up prior to the launch of the Apollo 11 mission, numbered AP 17/25, signed in bold blue ink, "Michael Collins." Calle's signature is preprinted at the bottom. In very fine condition.
Paul Calle was the only artist present with the Apollo 11 crew as they prepared for and suited up for their historic launch to the moon on July 16, 1969. Calle's pen-and-ink on-the-spot sketches of the ‘Suiting Up’ process are on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. Calle was one of the original group of artists NASA selected to artistically document the Mercury program and the beginning of the U.S. Space Age. As an official NASA artist, Calle covered the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and the Shuttle programs, effectively spanning three decades of space art.
