Colonial governor of Massachusetts who played a prominent role in Britain's struggle with France for control of North America (1694–1771). Manuscript DS, signed “W. Shirley,” one page, 7.75 x 6, January 3, 1768. Sight draft signed by William Shirley, in part: "At Fifty Days after sight pay this my second per Exchange (my First and Third of the Same Tenor and date not being paid) unto Mr. William Woodside or Order, Twenty five pounds Sterling for Value Received, as per Advice herewith Receiv'd." Handsomely mounted, cloth-matted, and framed with a caption to an overall size of 15.5 x 21. In very good to fine condition, with repaired paper loss to the top and bottom edges, affecting several words of text.
